Posts are called Binks. You can comment on stuff, you can like the things you enjoy, you can even re-Bink things. You can even swipe right and left on stuff, if that\u2019s your preferred UI for expressing your desires or hang-ups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The twist is that nothing you do makes it out into the real world<\/strong>; all your liking, re-Binking and swiping is <strong>completely, utterly, unavoidably futile<\/strong>.\u00a0It\u2019s kind of like being in space, where nobody can hear you scream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started out as a joke,\u201d Dan Kurtz, the app\u2019s creator says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAs soon as I started showing it to people, they said it felt a little bit like a nicotine patch for social media,\u201d Kurtz said.<\/strong> \u201cI put it out on the app store, and then the guy who made Cow Clicker \u2014 itself a satire on Farmville \u2014 ended up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2017\/06\/the-app-that-does-nothing\/529764\/\" target=\"_blank\">writing an article<\/a>about it, and the rest is history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The app is <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/app\/id1137768958\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free on iOS<\/a>, and Kurtz suggests that an Android version is in the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>See the full story<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2017\/06\/10\/binky\/?ncid=tcdaily&amp;utm_medium=TCnewsletter\"> here:\u00a0https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2017\/06\/10\/binky\/?ncid=tcdaily&amp;utm_medium=TCnewsletter<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Binky gives you a social media feed to interact with.
