Six Filmmakers to Showcase Shorts at Inaugural DIRECTV 3D Film Invitational
Six Hollywood filmmakers have been selected to showcase their 3D talents during the 2011 DIRECTV n3D(TM) Film Invitational, Presented by Panasonic. The films will premiere during the invitational on July 20at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.
The filmmakers were selected out of a pool of talented individuals who presented an original, live action short film concept that followed this year's invitational theme of "Anything is Possible," to a panel of distinguished judges.

XPAND Launches World’s First Educational 3D Network for Teachers and Students
In addition to the Educational 3D Network, XPAND 3D is supporting other educational initiatives, such as Camp RED, sponsored by RED Digital Cinema. At Camp RED, students aged 9-15 will learn to use the same technology that was used on such blockbuster movies as The Social Network, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tidesand Peter Jackson’s upcoming film, The Hobbit. Chile tourism promotion in 3D following agreement with LG Corp
Officials from Sernatur, Chile’s national tourism office confirmed an “unprecedented” partnership on Wednesday, which will place Chilean destinations broadcast in high quality 3D resolution wherever LG television sets are sold.

Paramount Releasing Specially-Brightened 3D Version Of ‘Transformers 3’ To Battle Format Nay-Sayers
It seems to be the idea of 3D convert Michael Bay, the director of the film, who tells Variety, “We want the best presentation possible. We have created a special version with extra sharpening, color and contrast. It is a superior look in the format.

One Best Buy Visit Shows 3D’s Struggle
Speaking at a recent industry conference, Disney CEO Bob Iger said at this point it is “way too early to write 3D’s epitaph.” Iger was referring to the film industry, not television, but many continue to question how significant a player 3D is going to be in the TV biz.
I saw one reason why recently when I visited a Magnolia Home Theatre store at a Best Buy in a pretty nice section of Los Angeles. I went into the store to start shopping for a new flat-screen TV and was actually helped by the store manager.

- 55 percent are satisfied with the fit of the glasses
- 87 percent of current 3DTV set owners say they are satisfied with the quality of their 3D picture
- 60 percent said their TVs are worth the price
