World’s largest cinemascope 3D TV?

Stealing the limelight at the China Optoelectronics Display Expo in Shenzhen is AU Optronics (AUO) and its new 71-inch display.

According to Engadget, this 71-incher also utilizes passive 3D glasses to view 3D images, similarly to the LG Cinema 3D TVs, though it's unclear if they're based on the same technology. In a prior interview, an LG executive told us LG Display is currently the only Cinema 3D TV panel manufacturer in the world.

Tekken Blood Vengeance full-length 3D film coming in Summer 2011

“Over the past years that I’ve been working on Tekken, fans have been begging for a full CG Tekken movie,” said Tekken creator and project director Katsuhiro Harada. “This movie is for those fans. Tekken has always been known for its colorful array of characters and background stories, and this movie is just one way of exploring that world from a new angle while bringing insight to the series.”

Samsung Launches 75 Inch D9500 3D Smart TV

Samsung has launched a new smart TV in Korea, the D9500 which features a massive 75 inch 3D display. This LED backlit 3D HTDV features a black diamond panel, and also features Samsung’s Smart Hub built in.

The Samsung D9500 will go on sale in Korea for about $17,500, there are no details on when it will be available in the US and Europe.

SchoolSAFE Plans 3DTV Network Premiere for National Safe Schools Week

School SAFE (www.schoolsafecom.org) announced today that it will launch a 3D television campaign during National Safe Schools Week, October 16-22, 2011, as part of a comprehensive school safety network that includes two-way radio interaction during school emergencies.

SchoolSAFE has selected School Safety Partners (www.SchoolSafetyPartners.org) to produce the 3D campaign, whichwill use live action stereoscopic scenes and stereoscopic 3D animation. School Safety Partners will shoot and edit the programs in Los Angeles.

Global 3-D TV Shipments Soar by Nearly 500 Percent in 2011

3D TV ForecastDriven by a pronounced change in marketing and promotion strategies as well as price declines and an increasing availability of content, worldwide shipments of 3-D TVs will catapult by a spectacular 463 percent to reach 23.4 million units in 2011, according to IHS iSuppli (NYSE: IHS) research.

Johnny Depp reveals he can’t see 3D

"I'm unable to see in 3D. My eyes don't see in 3D. I have a weird eye... It just doesn't work. It may come as a surprise to you, but I've never seen normally," he told the TV show Access Hollywood.

There's no statistic on how many Americans suffer from eye conditions making them incapable of experiencing 3D movie effects, but it is not an extremely rare condition. There are many viewers who suffer from a similar fate as Mr. Depp.

Trailer for Takashi Miike’s 3D Cannes Entry, ‘Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai’

This year two films will be presented in 3D at Cannes, one is Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but the other, more fascinating film will be Takashi Miike's Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (Ichimei), a remake of the 1962 feature directed by Masaki Kobayashi based on the novel by Yasuhiko Takiguchi.
