World’s first fully functional LEGO greenhouse: Even the dirt is made of LEGO bricks

The LEGO Greenhouse is part of the 2011 London Design Festival, an annual event that celebrates and promotes London’s creative industries. This is said to be the first functional greenhouse made entire of LEGO. LEGO UK commissioned designer Sebastian Bergne to build the greenhouse out of 100,000 LEGO bricks, using differently colored bricks depending on their placement. Every piece of the structure, including the roof and “dirt”, are built out of either translucent or brown LEGO pieces. The transparent pieces allow it to work like a conventional greenhouse.

Watch This Robot Almost Commit Suicide Then Pull Off A Stunt

 The robot is called Paraswift and for now, it doesn’t do much except scale heights and dive off high edges.

The research labs investing in the R&D for Paraswift are curious though, being a rare alliance between a Swiss robotics firm and Disney.

New Zealand Post launches first 3D stamp for Rugby World Cup

New Zealand Post is about to release its first three dimensional stamp.

Like so many other companies, it's cashing in on all the hype surrounding the Rugby World Cup. ...

“It's a special cup and it's a special event and we wanted to reflect that with a special stamp. The stamps cost $15 each and were created in Auckland,” says Simon Allison, sales and marketing manager for New Zealand Post.

Underwater Volcano Eruption Discovered, Scientist Prove Prediction Correct

[Philip Lelyveld comment: this is similar to the work I did in my pre-entertainment industry days as an earthquake and volcanic hazard researcher in the Aleutian Islands for Columbia Univ.!  That volcano erupted about 10 years ago.]

Underwater Volcano Eruption Discovered, Scientist Prove Prediction Correct. A group of scientists in Oregon were on a routine mission to recover underwater monitoring instruments in late July when they noticed the area around Axial Seamount, an undersea volcano they had been observing, was unrecognizable from the previous year.
