In testing designs, Intuition Robotics set out to make seniors comfortable with the tabletop device. ElliQ is small and doesn’t take up much room in the home because, Mr. Skuler said, seniors often move to smaller assisted-living apartments.
The device also incorporates body language to help build an emotional bond with an elderly person. If it makes a mistake, ElliQ will face downward and then slowly look up. Seniors interpret that as an apology, and Mr. Skuler said they are less likely to get frustrated.
