CANTON The Disney-like portion of Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village might break ground this year.
The virtual-reality area and indoor water park — to be called the Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Experience — is expected to open sometime in 2020, making it one of the last Village components to be completed. Immersive Artistry, which designed the holographic theater exhibit that debuted last year at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, also will design the experience center.
The Immersive Artistry team includes the co-founder of Walden Media, which was the production company for “A Dog’s Purpose” and “The Chronicles of Narnia” movies.
Site plans for the Village show the experience will be built along Interstate 77, north of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on the east side of the Village campus. The plans also indicate a second hotel — different from the 243-room four-star hotel — will be built near or attached to the experience.
