... we made a small task force to give out free tickets to artists. We’ve done this every year, largely through our own networks. The conference size (2500 attendees) meant we needed to do this at scale. Simply reaching out to friends no longer worked. The solution we found was to identify interesting artists and give them bundle of free tickets to give their artist friends. We had two rules: the ticket must go to someone who is a working artist and the person must not normally go to conferences. This strategy worked well to bring interesting people to the conference and counteract any danger of it feeling too corporate. ...
